Lab tests such as this are an ideal way to demonstrate the recovery capabilities of emew for a variety of electrolytes and feed materials. In most cases, these tests can be done right at your site so you can see the results for yourself.

This particular test is to demonstrate the recovery of copper cathode from a copper sulphate feed solution.  We can test a range of feed materials to recover not only copper, but also silver, nickel, tin and others.  This copper sulphate solution was prepared ahead of time and roughly 3L transferred to the feed tank.


The flow rate can be adjusted depending on the application and metal to be recovered. A DC current is applied to the cell using the positive and negative terminals from the rectifier.   The positive terminal is connected to the anode and negative is connected to the cathode. Once the circuit is hydraulically and electrically set up, the pump is first switched on to circulate the electrolyte through the system before turning on the rectifier.  With the electrolyte circulating and the current applied, copper will begin plating inside the cell. 

These lab tests enable us to determine the optimum parameters for your specific application.  Monitoring and control of variables such as current density, flow rate, metal concentration, pH, conductivity, current efficiency, power consumption, temperature, recovery rate and so on enabling us to design a process to achieve your metal recovery or waste treatment objectives. 

After a given period of time with a current applied, the harvest begins! The rectifier is first switched off, followed by the pump.  The system is partially drained, the upper end cap removed, and the starter sheet lifted out to reveal a brilliant high purity copper cathode.
