Copper Exploration Begins in India

25 square kilometers has been surveyed by the Geological survey of India (GSI) which has established copper reserves in the central Indian province of Chhattisgarh. Detailed exploration will commence this year by Chhattisgarh Copper Limited (CCL) a joint venture of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Limited (CMDCL). These new reserves are expected to increase HCL’s refined copper production from 70 000 to 100 000 tonnes/year.
