Close to 34 billion gallons of wastewater is treated in the United States every day! This includes industrial and municipal wastewater that contains sewage, chemicals, and metals.

Only 20% of wastewater globally receives proper wastewater treatment according to UNESCO (2012). In high-income countries those rates are close to 70%, while in developing countries only 8%.
